Battery storage installation in the last 4 years is the equivalent of 20 nuclear power plants

Exciting news from the US energy scene! The country has made huge strides in installing battery storage systems, now boasting over 20 gigawatts of capacity. In the 2024 we've added an impressive 5 gigawatts!

These batteries are making a real difference—especially in places like California, where they've stepped up during those sweltering heat waves to prevent power outages.

California and Texas leading the charge in this energy revolution. In fact, the advancements in battery power are helping these states cope with high electricity demands, ensuring that everyone keeps their cool when they crank up the air conditioning.

One of the most remarkable things about battery storage is how it supports renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Sometimes the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow, but thanks to these batteries, we can store energy and deliver it to the grid exactly when we need it. As John Moura from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation puts it, “Storage gives us a time machine to deliver electricity when we need it.”

Looking ahead, the US Energy Information Administration predicts that battery capacity could double to 40 gigawatts by 2025. Plus, the International Energy Agency forecasts that by 2050, batteries could supply about 40% of the short-term flexibility that our electricity grids will need.

All this means we’re moving toward a more reliable and sustainable energy future, with batteries playing a key role in making our power systems stronger.
